UUKMA National Kalamela

The Co-operative Academy of Stoke-on-Trent hosted the National Kalamela Festival of Performing Arts. More than 500 artists from across the country travelled to Stoke-on-Trent to take part in the prestigous competition. It saw dancers compete in 42 different south Indian dances and arts.

The competition was organised by the UUKMA (Union of UK Malayalee Assosciation).  Stoke-on-Trent Lord Mayor Terry Crowe said "It's a wonderful sort of event for us to be hosting as a city. We are a multi-cultural city which welcomes people of all backgrounds."

The Academy held the event in its state-of-the-art Hall, Drama Studio, Dance Studio, Activity Space and Sports Hall. Over 1000 visitors packed the Academy and organisors described it as the best event since the competition began.
