Year 9 Academy students are being given an insight into the world of work having enrolled as industrial cadets. Local industry and businesses have signed up to support the industrial cadet scheme which is supported and promoted by H.R.H Prince Charles. The project involves students from the Academy working with fellow students from Haywood Engineering College.
The Industrial Cadets programme takes place over eight weeks with the cadets visiting a range of businesses whilst working on a project, which has been designed to develop their skills and give them an understanding of the workplace.
Firms who have signed up to the project include Dudson Ltd, McCamley UK, Michelin, Seddon Property Services, and Steelite. Keele University will also be supporting the students. The programme will come to an end in March when the cadets graduate in an evening ceremony at Port Vale Football Club. It is hoped that this is the first of many such programmes which will give a large number of Year 9 students the benefit of this experience and the Academy is grateful to the Prince’s Trust and the local businesses for enabling this to take place.
