Holiday Club – A Cracking Success!

For three days over the Easter break, the Academy was home to a variety of sports and fun-filled activities for students and pupils in the local area.  The Holiday Club, aimed at children aged 8-12 years old, was attended by pupils from four local primary schools as well as some Year 7 and 8 students at the Academy.  There were different activities on offer each day, including football, cricket, dance, drama, art and computers.

By far the biggest success was wheelchair basketball with Stoke Spitfires, as one parent said, “My son didn’t stop talking about it all evening!”  It was a chance for the children to try something different and they all rose to the challenge.  Everyone joined in and had an exciting time!

For many, it was their first time inside the Academy and all were wowed by the great facilities.  It also proved a perfect opportunity for students to meet and make new friends from different schools, many of whom will be starting together at the Academy in September.

Around 20-25 children attended each day, enthusiastically taking part in all the activities and supporting each other co-operatively.  At the end of the three days, many of the children asked if it was going to be run again as they were eager to sign up for the next one!  Many thanks to our staff and providers for helping to make it such a success!
