Student Scores Rotary Award

Talented Ahmed Hereka has proved a success in the classroom and on the football pitch following his move from Sweden.

He enrolled at the Co-operative Academy Of Stoke-on-Trent last year after his family relocated to the UK.

Ahmed arrived with extremely limited English, but has since gone on to excel at school. The 16-year-old has already passed a maths GCSE and is on track to succeed in English too.

Away from the classroom, the talented footballer has been signed by Newcastle Town FC and has already netted seven goals for his new club.

Now Ahmed has been honoured by Tunstall Rotary Club at the Above and Beyond Awards.

His teacher Mrs Crowther-Green, one of the Assistant Vice-Principal's of the Academy, said: "He has surpassed all expectations. He is the most delightful young man, who is an ambassador for the school. He's very popular and an outstanding footballer."
