Literacy Day Visit

Pupils were taken on a trip to back in time when an author paid them a visit.

Writer Geraldine Outhwaite dropped in to the Co-operative Academy as part of the school's annual literacy day.

Geraldine's book, 'Brownhills, The Beatles and Beyond', chronicled her days at the now-demolished Brownhills High School for Girls, which was replaced by the £23 million academy in 2012.

Jenny Barlow, head of the communication faculty, said: "I read in The Sentinel that Geraldine had written a book about her time at our old school so we invited her in.

"She spoke about her time there and showed pupils her old report cards."
