Mrs Garrity Wins Award
Thursday 25th February saw the incredible staff of the Co-operative Academies Trust join together in Manchester for the annual Recognition Evening.
The Co-operative Academy of Stoke-on-Trent was represented with nominees in all categories. The staff nominated were Mr Ford, Mrs Holdcroft, Mrs Oakes-White, Mrs Garrity, Mrs Clarke and Mrs Grice, along with our Parent Governor, Mrs Brigitta Beckett.
Mrs Garrity won the Solidarity Award for her innovative work with Co-operative Young Leaders.
The Co-operative Young Leaders Programme was created in May 2011 and has been a very successful programme for both our students and our partner primary school pupils. The programme offers students in Years 7 -11 the opportunity to learn and develop skills such as; communication, organisation, planning, and delegation. It develops confidence, self- esteem and encourages teamwork.
Mrs Garrity has worked single-handedly on the project which is now being used as a framework for other Academies in the trust.
Mr Lowry, Principal, said “We have many staff passionate about young people and education – but Mrs Garrity goes above and beyond. Her tireless work with the Co-operative Young Leaders programme has seen countless students grow into empowered, confident and passionate leaders.
Our current Head Boy and Head Girl were both Young Leaders as are many of our prefects. It’s a fantastic opportunity and we see many students building on their skills with work in their communities and with other events around the Academy.”
There were various Academies at the event, all part of the Co-operative Academies Trust which sponsors schools across the North of England. They included Manchester Creative and Media Academy, which joined the Co-operative Academies Trust this week.
There will be a further Recognition Evening later in the year to celebrate the wonderful work of our students.
