Top Of The Class
The Co-operative Academies Trust, which sponsors eight academies in Leeds, Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent, is one of the top performing Multi Academy Trusts (MATs) in the country.
According to the Government’s latest figures published today (19 January), the trust is the best performing MAT based in Northern England for secondary academies. The figures show that student progress judged from the time they leave primary through to their GCSE results was amongst the best nationally.
The trust is supported by The Co-op, the largest co-operative business in the country and benefits greatly from the expertise and professional support that it offers. All of the academies serve challenging communities and these results show how the trust is transforming and regenerating local communities.
Frank Norris, Director of the Co-operative Academies Trust, said “This is fantastic news for us and all our academies. The figures show the positive impact great teaching and focused leadership can have on the life chances of students. It also demonstrates yet again how the Co-op’s unique support is such a key factor in our continuing success.”
The Co-operative Academies Trust is based at The Co-op’s Manchester business support centre, the iconic 1 Angel Square building.
Nick Lowry, Principal of The Co-operative Academy of Stoke-on-Trent said “We’ve been a part of the Co-operative Academies Trust since 2010 and the academy has grown significantly. This year alone we’ve had our best-ever results, taken in more students than ever before and won a Department for Education Character Award.”
“We are so proud that our academy staff and students have made such a huge contribution to today’s results.”
