World Book Day

As always, World Book Day was enthusiastically celebrated by staff and students alike. The theme for this year was ‘British Authors Past and Present’. Each Faculty represented a British author that linked in some way to their own subject areas. These were as follows;

Science – Scientific Experiments and Evolution – Jekyll and Hyde and Frankenstein

Maths – Problem Solving – Sherlock Holmes

ICT/Technology – New Worlds – Narnia (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe), Lord of the Rings

Performance – The World of David Walliams

Social Sciences – Travel through Time - Horrible Histories, Treasure Island

Communication – Victorian England – Dickens

I-Zone – Potty about Potter – Harry Potter

Office and Admin - Superheroes

During the day, students took part in an Academy wide quiz that involved finding quotes in each Faculty area and working out which characters members of staff were dressed up as. Each Faculty also delivered starter activities that linked to their nominated author or the time period in which the books were written. There was a real buzz around the Academy as the students were excited to discover the characters around them. It was fantastic to see a Year 7 student walk into a classroom and immediately know who the characters of Miss Havisham and Pip were!

The support from all staff was amazing and there were many fantastic outfits, as you can see from the photograph. A special mention must go to Mrs Beech and Miss Dawson in Science whose Jekyll and Hyde outfits definitely stole the show.

World Book Day is the chance for the students to see reading come alive across every subject and this was most definitely achieved.
