Music Student Strikes Chord
Some of our students' who study BTEC music were lucky enough to have a talk from a local music journalist, who herself studied BTEC music at school.
Bethan Shufflebotham (who studied journalism at Staffordshire University) gave a presentation all about how a band goes through the process of starting up together to promoting themselves and releasing an EP (extended play).
The music blogger; reviewer and promoter for "REBEL" also talked about her journalism and how that has helped fuel her passion for music, and was delighted to see the students' passion for music and ambitions to pursue a career within the music industry.
Bethan said: "It was an absolute pleasure to talk to the music students about my role in the music industry. It's something new to them, but hopefully it is now something they may want to get involved with. Stoke-on-Trent is going for the "City of Culture 2021" bid and teaching young adults about Stoke's culture is something that needs to happen more. The students' engaged with the presentation really well and were polite and friendly."
Year 10 student Mario said: "It was really interesting to hear about all the different segments of music journalism. I love music and will defintely try and write more about it. The talk was great; one of best music lessons so far."
