Success At Arts Evening
Our Academy hosted an Arts and Book Evening this week, as we opened our doors to the local community. Set up by our Parents; Teachers and Friends Association, with help from our staff and students, the event was to highlight the fantastic art and literacy work that is produced at the Academy.
Visitors were greeted by Amna; Noor; Samia and Lauren in reception, before making their way to a few indoor stalls. Mrs Higgs, the Academy Librarian, hosted a book swap stall, as well as giving all adults a free book to take away with them. Hanley Library also had a stall as they took part in the fun.
In the courtyard, with the sun shining bright, a plethora of activities took place to entertain all, with each activity led by our Co-operative Young Leaders, who excelled on the night.
One stall allowed visitors to design their own plate (with Shaimaa and Liwa) to take away with them, with another table creating colorful bookmarks, ably led by Joe and Tyrese (who made bookmark worms) and Jumia; Nicole and Abbie (who made emoji bookmarks).
Members of our PTFA, along with Qudsia, ran a tuck shop table. They sold cakes and snacks they had baked themselves, as well as crisps and chocolate. Alongside this was a refreshments kiosk which offered hot and cold drinks free of charge.
In the drama area, Chloe enthralled the crowd with a superb monologue from her drama studies at the academy. Once this was finished, the Carnegie Book Club (Katie; Millie; Shannon; Gloria and Jessica) read from their favourite books in the story telling corner, which captured the imagination of both adults and children alike.
Last but not least, our talented musicians took to the stage to perform to the crowd. Showcasing their abilities on guitar; violin; keyboard and vocals, the performances encapsulated the atmosphere of the evening and provided a pleasant backdrop to the event. Well done to Bailey; Naomi; Sarah; Olivia; Katie; Mia; Jasmin and Keira.
