Students Smash Sports Day

Sports day 2017 was the best yet. We had some fantastic talent on display, from Ethan in Year 8 stepping in last minute to support the Year 10 team (and becoming the best performer) to the Venture relay team claiming a last minute victory in the relay race thanks to Year 10 student Kyle and his Usain Bolt like speed.

With the sun out and shining providing perfect sports day weather, the support for our 64 elite athletes from all the students and staff was fantastic and the atmosphere on the field was electric. Community spirit really came to the fore as the academy got behind the athletes and celebrated the success of the day.

The overall winner winners were Venture, who snatched victory in dramatic circumstances. Discovery had led the competition throughout the day until the final double point relay, when Venture came out on top, becoming sports day champions for 2017.

Head of Year 8 Mrs Chilton said: "Well done to all that were involved and help to run and support sports day."

Mr Rogers, Head of PE said: "This was a proud day for me. It's good to test yourself and develop your talents and ambitions as fully as you can and achieve greater success; but I think success is the feeling you get from a job well done, and everybody involved in organising and participating in this event can consider themselves a complete success. #Awesome team
